ABOUT ME
Artist Statement
Macrame is the art of decorative knotting using only your hands as tools.
.
September's Child was established in June 2005 by owner and artisan, Elena Springett.

After learning the basic knots from a book I found myself hooked and began to focus on expanding my knowledge, skills and imagination. I am continuously intrigued by the magic of transforming cords into endless geometric patterns.

My full time job involves helping differently abled adults practice living skills in the community. Helping them find their own enjoyments and passions helps hone my own vision.. Macrame has enabled me to see my environment with a more creative point of view. I enjoy spending time searching for adornments such as an interesting piece of driftwood and have involved several of my folks. Through my enthusiasm they have been shown many of the wonderous things nature has to offer. These folks have touched my heart with sharing my enthusiasm by independently finding trinkets they would like for me to use and by coming up with their own uses and ideas.

I find value and a sense of purpose knowing that I am able to have a positive impact in other people's lives by providing a means for them to beautify their own world through my visions. I trust my work more than my words to reveal my perceptions, fantasies and experiences.

For me, macrame is healing in nature. Pulling and working the cords helps strengthen my arthritic hands and loosen my joints. The art of repetative knots used to create designs is medatative. It frees my imagination bringing with it peace, calmness and a rewarding sense of accomplishment.
